Personality and Behaviour

Harry is, for the most parts, a very decent bloke. He's honest (except when he has to lie), brave (to the point of being stupid in some cases) and quick on his feet in times of high stress (whether it's dueling Death Eaters, or battling his way through rabid reporters). Except for a few months over 5th year, he's not very quick to anger either (unless it's Malfoy pushing the buttons, or someone being treated unfairly, or mentions of Voldemort or…okay, so maybe he is quick to anger, but only for very good reasons).

Harry is loyal and will do anything for his friends (he died, didn't he? And he doesn't regret his decisions for a minute.). Since the Siege at Hogwarts, Harry has well-hidden bouts of depression and self-loathing, brought on by post-traumatic stress. He can usually talk himself out of those moods, usually by reminding himself he cannot be selfish and needs to think about what to do to set the Wizarding World to rights. Besides, there are other, larger issues to think about than himself, the at-large Death Eaters are just the tip of the iceberg.

Confusion of his sexual-orientation also keeps him up at night, along with responsibilities that come with saving the world, political pressures he faces on a daily basis, and oh, just about everything else he can think of. Harry has a very bad habit of taking on all the problems of the world and thinking he has to fix them because he's Harry Potter.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Magical Strengths: Defense Against the Dark Arts, the Patronus Charm, and Transfiguration. He can cast the Unforgiveables, but he doesn't like to unless it's a life or death situation and he's protecting someone else. Non-magical strengths: Honesty, integrity, bravery

Magical Weaknesses: Potions, Herbology and Divinations. Also, he has trouble with Charms that aren't useful to Defense. Non-Magical Weaknesses: Habit of rushing in to 'save people' without thinking through the consequences; selfless to the point of doing things that makes him unhappy just because it pleases someone else; tries to handle everything himself even if it's unrealistic to think he doesn't need help.

Personal History

Harry was raisedif their near-neglect could be called 'parenting' by his mother's sister and her husband. His parents were murdered by Voldemort when Harry was just over a year old, due to a prophecy that named Harry to be the one wizard who could defeat Voldemort. All of this was unknown to Harry until his 11th birthday, when Hagrid came to give him his Hogwarts letter. The discovery of the Wizarding world was both amazing and heart-breaking for Harry, who finally realized he had people who cared about him, only to find out they were dead. However, for the first time in his life he had friendsreal, actual friends!and was respected (for the most part) and looked up to. In his third year he had more good news—he had a godfather who wanted Harry to come live with him. It was more than he'd ever dared to hope for, though he'd dreamed of it a few times. That happiness wasn't to last long, however, when Sirius had to go on the run, and then died just two years later. 6th and 7th years were far from pleasant, though they had their moments.

After defeating Voldemort, Harry spent the summer of 1998 rebuilding Hogwarts and helping his friends grieve. He grew closer to Neville and Luna again, and tried to pick up where he left off with Ginny. However, that relationship was short-lived and before the summer was over, Harry and Ginny decided that their time had passed and decided that they were better as friends. Kingsley offered him a position as an Auror right after the battle, but Harry turned him down, not wanting any special treatment and knowing that he'd be a better Auror finishing his education and going through a full Auror training. So, he chose to go through the Specialized NEWT Program, and took NEWTs in DADA, Charms, Transfiguration, Potions, Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures. In July of 1999 he applied for Auror training and will hear if he was accepted in August. And so what if sometimes he wishes he could have made a different decision and go off and play Quidditch? He's not going to do it. He knows what he needs to do, and that is to help fix the Ministry. He's not about to let anyone down now. He's still got that 'Saving People Thing' going on, and it's not likely to go away anytime soon.
